Parrott Named as School/Home/Community Liaison

Mayfield Independent Schools is proud to announce that Derrick Parrott has been named as the district’s new School/Home/Community Liaison. He will oversee specialized services and programs for Mayfield Schools while creating unique relationships with students, parents and the community at large, a position of which Parrott is exceedingly qualified.

The position, while providing specialized services on a school and district level, also means addressing specific student needs. “My duties will include working with at-risk youth, going to home visits if necessary, and helping students with what they need on an individual level to be successful, ” explained Parrott.  “I think with me being a native of Mayfield and having a connection with students as well as school administration and community partners, I see myself having an impact on the youth.”

An alumnus of Mayfield High School, Parrott attended Murray State University on a football scholarship and received a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and master’s in Human Development and Leadership. “I returned to my hometown with the intention of pursuing a career giving back to the youth in the community,” explained Parrott.

His career started with the Mayfield Youth Development Center while simultaneously coaching football and basketball for Mayfield Middle School.  Parrott then transitioned to Pennyrile Allied Community Services, Inc. as a supervisor where, as he explained, “I focused my efforts on family preservation for six years.”  While he still coaches MMS football and basketball, Parrott has also been an assistant coach to the MHS basketball team for the past four years. Parrott  also has served on the Mayfield City Council since 2019, and is in his second term.

Derrick is married to Ashley Hawkins Parrott, and is the proud father of son, Derrick, and daughter, Arie.
