Mayfield Percussion Wins Circuit Championships

The Mayfield High School Indoor Percussion Ensemble recently traveled to Western Kentucky University to compete in the Southeastern Color Guard Circuit (SCGC) Championships—bringing home the title of circuit champions.

The ensemble, made up of students in grades 7–12, is led by Mayfield High School Spanish teacher Tripp Freeman.  Members of the winning percussion ensemble, pictured left to right, are Canasia Morris, Alyssa Morris, David Scribner, Jacob Carranza, Jayvon Taylor-Hobbs, Justin Motes, Jayden Boyd, Leslie Guerrero, and Antonio Fabian.

“This was our first year fielding a competitive winter percussion unit,” said Freeman. “I’m incredibly proud of the hard work and growth these students have shown.”

SCGC features indoor percussion, winds, and color guard groups from across Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi, and Tennessee.
