Kentucky 811, a non-profit organization dedicated to preventing damage to underground utilities, recently made a substantial donation of school supplies to the entire fourth-grade class at Mayfield Elementary School. The initiative, led by Patrick Donoghue, Public Awareness & Damage Prevention Manager for Kentucky 811's Western Region, provided 200 boxes of supplies to students.
"811 Day is our holiday, and we wanted to do something bigger this year," Donoghue added. The donation was a community-wide effort, with funds and support coming from various organizations and individuals, including a significant sponsorship from the Public Service Commission. The supplies were specifically chosen to fulfill the school’s fourth-grade supply list.
August 11 is known nationally as 811 Day, serving as a vital reminder to all residents and professional excavators to dial 811 before any digging project. This simple, free call alerts utility companies to mark the approximate location of their underground lines, preventing costly and dangerous accidents.
Kentucky 811 encourages everyone to call 811 at least two business days before digging to ensure their safety and the integrity of essential infrastructure.
