Transportation Department: Mission & Guidelines

Mission Statement
Our Transportation Department is committed to providing safe, efficient, and reliable transportation services that support student learning and well‑being every school day.

Core Principles

  • Safety First: We prioritize the health, safety, and welfare of every student in our care.

  • Reliability & Efficiency: We maintain well‑equipped vehicles and qualified drivers to ensure punctual service, minimizing disruptions and maximizing route efficiency.

  • Equitable Access: Transportation privileges are provided consistently in accordance with district residency and eligibility standards.

Eligibility & Regular Usage

  • Resident students in grades K–8 who reside within Mayfield Independent Schools boundaries are eligible for daily pickup and drop‑off based on the addresses listed on the transportation acknowledgment form.

  • Students should ride the bus at least 50% of school days to qualify as regular riders. This helps us optimize route planning and ensures fair allocation of resources.

  • Non‑resident students are not eligible for district‑provided transportation.

Operational Guidelines

  1. Assigned Pickup/Drop‑Off Locations
Routes and stops are determined by our Transportation Department based on safety, routing efficiency, and district guidelines. Stops may be up to a set walking distance from student home addresses, following district standards. Any requests for changes must be submitted in writing for review.

  2. Route Planning & Annual Review
Routes are evaluated regularly—at least annually or as needed—to respond to changes in student population and traffic patterns. Maintenance of vehicles and training of drivers are top priorities for reliable service.

  3. Behavior & Safety Expectations
Riding the school bus is a privilege—not a right. To maintain safety and order, respectful behavior is required at all times. Severe or repeated misconduct may result in suspension of transportation privileges.

Parental Partnership

We urge parents and guardians to support the Transportation Department’s efforts by:

  • Ensuring students are ready and present at their assigned stop at least five minutes before the scheduled pickup time.

  • Notifying the school or Transportation Office promptly of any changes to your child’s pickup or drop‑off status.

  • Supporting bus rules and conduct standards to help us maintain a safe environment for everyone.
